Growing Notes
Strawberries are perennial plants that produce fruit in their second and subsequent years. In Zone 8b, plant bare-root crowns in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Mulch heavily to conserve moisture and keep berries clean. Remove runners to encourage larger fruit production. Replace plants every 3-4 years for best production. June-bearing varieties produce one large crop in late spring, while everbearing varieties produce smaller crops throughout the season.
